LMCC research project

LMCC: Leuven Mathematical Modeling & Computational Science Research Center (01-07-2007 --)
(A Research Center of the K.U.Leuven, Group Sciences, Engineering & Technology)

Short description

The centre combines expertise on mathematical model development with expertise on large-scale numerical simulations in several strategic areas of research, such as astrophysics and space science, molecular modeling, systems biology, fluid dynamics, and product development.

The mission of the LMCC includes:

  • To conduct forefront basic and applied research in mathematical modeling, analysis, and numerical simulation of complex problems (e.g. including large-scale multi-physics approaches and multi-scale techniques);
  • To provide technical leadership on high-performance computing (HPC) and mathematical modeling and practical support for the research groups of the group Exact Sciences of the K.U.Leuven and members of the Associatie K.U.Leuven;
  • To furnish an effective interface with the academic fundamental and applied research;
  • To promote virtual prototypes based on mathematical modeling, simulation and optimization techniques as valuable and efficient alternatives to building physical prototypes in research and industry.
In accordance with this mission, the LMCC has a multi-disciplinary but highly mathematically oriented character, by supporting a strong applied research effort that is grounded in basic research.
