Description

Definition
Create platform for teaching the courses numerical analysis at the faculty of sciences and of applied sciences
Origin
This is part of the initiative "Begeleide zelfstudie" at the K.U.Leuven
Students should learn about problem solving and practical applications
Vertical integration of teaching and research
Horizontal integration between basic science courses
Reduce number of contact hours, increase self-learning activity
Public
Basic courses numerical mathematics: H014, H302, G033, G188
Later also more advanced courses: H334, H335, G168, H419, HC88, G433
Objectives
  1. Possibility to ask questions about lecture notes, exercises, exams,...
  2. A newsgroup to exchange ideas between students, teachers, assistents,...
  3. Make some (animated) illustrations of the course available, links to available software (also professional), links to other courses,...
  4. Extra exercises possibly with model solutions. Also exercises of non-academic nature, possibly with an open end.
  5. Further references to more advanced methods, which may or may not be treated in other numerical courses, and links to professional sites.
  6. Some self-test/evaluation system (a database of questions). These results should make it possible to remedy during teaching hours.
